Myth vs. Fact: I will lose my benefits if I go back to work.

By Tripp, Senior Ticket Counselor

Myth:  If I return to work and my wages are reported to the SSA, they will take away all of my benefits.

Fact:  Employers are required to report your wages to the SSA, regardless of whether you are an SSI/SSDI beneficiary or not.  If you receive SSI or SSDI benefits, are eligible to participate in the Ticket to Work program, and you go back to work without participating in the program, you can risk losing your benefits.  This can easily be avoided by assigning your ticket to an employment network or state vocational agency.  The purpose of the Ticket to Work program is to allow you to attempt going back to work to see whether or not it is right for you, all the while protecting your benefits.  Therefore going back to work without the assistance the program offers will defeat it's purpose, and could prove costly for a person who is eligible to participate in the program and elects not to.

Welcome!

By Tripp, Senior Ticket Counselor

We are excited you have decided to join our blog community, Ticket Talk Cafe.  Ticket Talk Cafe is just an extension of EmployReward Solutions (ERS) and another opportunity to provide our ticketholders with power, opportunity and a voice. Although we will use Ticket Talk Café to share information about our company, our main goal is to give ticket holders a forum to interact. Ticket Talk Café is your medium to ask questions, share experiences and explore your options. We are confident that Ticket Talk Cafe, in addition to our website, and our telephone counselors, will be able to better help you understand the purpose of the Ticket to Work program and how it benefits you as a Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) beneficiary.

So who is EmployReward Solutions (ERS)?  We are an employment network that is designed around the idea of putting you, the ticket holder, first.  At ERS, our goal is to provide you with the necessary resources and supports you need to be successful on your journey into the workforce and achieving financial independence.   We can accomplish this by offering assigned ticket holders a variety of services like resume writing, aptitude assessments, and more.    We are dedicated to having an open line of communication between you, the ticket holders, and ERS.  We look forward to your feedback and suggestions about our site and the products and services we offer.  Our goal is to be a one stop shop for all your employment needs.   If you don’t succeed then we don’t succeed.

For those of you who may not be familiar with the Ticket to Work (TTW) program, you may be wondering what we are talking about.  In 1999, the government passed a new program that would allow SSI and SSDI beneficiaries to attempt returning to the workforce, if and when they were able and ready to do so.  All the while, protecting their benefits, and even rewarding companies who chose to diversify their workforce by hiring these individuals with certain tax incentives.  This program is absolutely free and completely voluntary for SSI and SSDI beneficiaries who are eligible ticket holders.  This means that the services we provide here at ERS are absolutely free to you, but you must sign up with our network to participate.

There are many reason why participating in this program is a great opportunity.  For starters, it helps you build self-esteem and feel good about yourself.   As you work your way through the program, you can test careers to see what the right fit is for you, learn new skills, make connections in the community, and work towards building financial independence.

We hope Ticket Talk Café will help better serve you with the ticket program, and what ERS does.  Please feel free to write us and ask questions.  In the next couple of blogs we will address some of your frequently asked questions, and other topics suggested by ticket holders.
